Four months later they reached the island of Penang. Kratom-Kratom was the first black man the people on this island had ever seen. Not only was he black, he was also much taller than the Penang people. They called him “hantu” - which means ghost in their language. So they shouted “hantu” and ran away. They did not get far though. Kratom-Kratom started drumming, and his rhythms were so beguiling that the people got under a strong, strange spell that forced them back to Kratom-Kratom. It made them feel happy and offer all kinds of services to Kratom-Kratom.

They had many a thing that Kratom-Kratom desired, but most of all, they had Malay Kratom. Kratom-Kratom tried the Malay Kratom, and his rhythms became heavier, and his fingers less nimble. Kratom-Kratom felt that this Malay Kratom was a mighty medicine to take away pain, and a mighty weapon to fight a war, but there was no pain in him to be taken away and no war to be fought. So Kratom-Kratom showed one of his Bali Kratom leaves to them and asked them for the source of this leave.

The people of Penang had never reached Bali, so they pointed to the north, towards Thailand.

And Kratom-Kratom was on his way with the next ship.
